Whether you’re an adventurous person or simply love the outdoors, ATV riding is an enjoyable activity for almost anyone. Just because you are of a certain age or you have kids doesn’t mean you cannot partake in ATVing in beautiful terrains. In fact, your children can join you! That’s what makes riding ATVs the perfect activity for the entire family.

Are you going ATVing for the first time? If you’re not sure how to dress and what gear to get for riding ATV, you’ve come to the right place. Here’s a brief guide to wearing the right attire and gear for a safe and pleasant riding experience.

Go For Full-Sleeved Shirt

When you are packing clothes for ATV riding, make sure you are choosing something that you don’t mind getting dirty. It is best to wear a full-sleeve shirt that will protect you from debris as well as prolonged sun exposure. If you’re riding in a hot or humid climate, make sure your shirt is breathable and preferably made of cotton.

Riding Jacket

If you’re riding during the peak summer, then a jacket may not be the most comfortable. However, if the weather permits, you should definitely wear a riding jacket that will provide you extra safety if you fall and protect you from rain. When you are picking a jacket, make sure it offers a complete range of motion.

Wear Long Pants

While shorts are incredibly comfortable, they are not the best choice for riding an ATV. You’re likely going to travel through unpaved, rough terrains, and having your legs exposed to elements is not worth the risk. Pack a pair of long and sturdy pants that will provide you necessary protection against sunburn, cuts, and scrapes.

Gloves

Do you really need gloves for riding an ATV? The answer is yes. When riding an ATV, you constantly need to maneuver and pull the levers. Gloves will save you from blisters and calluses. Moreover, if you’re going through a forested area, gloves are necessary to prevent cuts and bruises on your hands.

Goggles

Unlike a car, you don’t have a windshield between you and high-speed wind. Wearing sunglasses or riding goggles will shield your eyes from wind, dust, and sun.

Full-Face Helmet

Wearing a helmet may seem like a hassle but it is crucial to your safety. A full-face helmet is one of the most important items of your ATV riding gear. In case you fall, a high-quality helmet will protect you from head injuries. Moreover, helmets also offer additional protection from UV.

Skip the Flip-Flops

You might have seen people riding ATVs in their flip-flops. Though it is an option, it’s not a very good one. When you're riding an ATV, you have to accelerate and make sharp turns. And flip-flops sliding off your feet is the last thing you want to worry about.  Go for closed-toe shoes such as sneakers or boots.

Don’t Forget Sunscreen

Sunscreen isn’t exactly clothing but is an essential you must put on whenever doing an outdoor activity. Even if it is winter or a cloudy day, it doesn't mean you can skip sun protection. Pack sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. Remember to reapply as frequently as needed.

The Bottom Line

Riding ATV is an excellent way to add excitement to life. It may feel intimidating at first, but it has the potential to become a family favorite. We hope the above-mentioned tips make you comfortable and well-prepared for your first ATV ride!
